Getting down to business with Sage

For many the word ‘sage’ leads to thoughts of herbs or wise men. However, for those working in finance, it conjures up a different connotation that has more to do with business efficiency and computerised accounting than cooking or Greek philosophers with beards.

In fact, Sage is one of the biggest names in financial software, providing a range of accounting packages for businesses of all sizes. Sage 50 is designed specifically for small and medium sized enterprises, and Sage 50 Accounts Professional is the ‘Rolls Royce’ within this product line.

In addition to being a valuable accounting tool, Sage 50 Accounts Professional acts as a business management system that provides insightful information on customers, suppliers, products and areas of profitability. This type of data supports strategic planning, helping organisations to become more streamlined and effective, which explains its popularity among UK SMEs.

However, this level of sophistication is only helpful if those using the software know how to get the most from the various functions and reporting capabilities. That’s why we’re launching a new IAB Computerised Accounting for Business course, which teaches the fundamentals of manual bookkeeping while developing competency in using Sage 50 Accounts Professional.

This course stands out in the world of bookkeeping training because it’s the first time Sage has partnered with an awarding body to offer joint certification. The IAB (International Association of Bookkeepers) is recognised and regulated as an awarding body by the relevant government authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, which means that courses are recognised as developing a high level of knowledge and proficiency.

Of particular importance is the fact that the IAB Computerised Accounting for Business course is part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), which came into force in October 2010. Developed by Ofqual (Office and Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) in partnership with other national regulators, the QCF is a comprehensive system for assessing how effectively courses develop demonstrable skills. This explains why QCF accredited qualifications are considered the crème de la crème by recruiters and employers, and are of most value to professionals seeking to advance their career.

IAB Computerised Accounting for Business launches in January so keep an eye on our website for further details in the New Year.
