Happy New Year everyone! 2011 is now behind us and the year ahead presents us with fresh opportunities to look ahead and set goals for our lives and careers.
Focusing on your ambitions for the next 12 months early on will help you quickly achieve your aims, whether you plan to gain a new qualification for a promotion, a better job or to follow your dream career.
Here are some tips to help you hit the ground running in your studies for 2012:
Be clear and realistic
The first thing you must do is be specific about what you want to have achieved by the end of this year. Really pinpoint what you want to do and where you want to be by December and then set it down in writing. However, be sure your aims are doable. Setting goals that are too ambitious will only lead to frustration. Keep your plans reasonable whilst still retaining a challenging element.
Be your own biggest motivator
Only you can make your aspirations happen this year, therefore it’s important to be self motivated whilst studying for a new qualification. There are many ways to get yourself into the rhythm of study from setting targets for what you want to achieve per week, to treating yourself when you exceed your expectations. Little steps such as this will help you take charge of your studies effectively.
Involve your family and friends
Having the help and support of those close to you is as beneficial as being the manager of your own studies. You can involve your loved ones by getting them to quiz you on what you’ve learned or by offering to spend some time talking over concepts you’re struggling with. Not only will this be of assistance to you but will also allow your family and friends to share in your ambitions and successes.
Start slowly and build up throughout the year
If you rush through your studies and try to get too much done at once you'll feel overwhelmed and probably will never want to study again. Make sure to take your time, once you feel confident with what you’re doing push yourself a little further. When you're up to speed you’ll find yourself becoming adept at your new skills in no time.
If you stick to your goals and remain focussed then 2012 could very well be the year that you succeed in your studies and your career.
