Home Learning College was founded in 1987, and traded as an independent owned and managed business until 2003 when a management buy out backed by ECI Partners, one of the longest established Private Equity Groups in the UK, took place.
ECI have provided finance to more than 250 companies over the past 20 years, typically investing in management buyouts, buy-ins and development capital deals worth between £10 million and £150 million, and have historically backed a diverse range of businesses including Bounty, Late Rooms, Think Money, Holiday Autos, MandM Direct, Hoseasons, Sunsail, Kirker Holidays, Bloomsbury Publishing, Café Rouge, and Bella Italia.
ECI's heritage stretches back to 1976. They were a pioneer in the venture capital industry and the experience of those early years was the foundation of what is now one of the UK's most successful Private Equity Groups.
Having recently raised a £430m fund, ECI currently manage assets of over £880 million on behalf of a prestigious group of major UK and international institutions, typically investing in high growth UK businesses. Over 1.2m UK pensioners are represented by investors in ECI's funds.
ECI has a strong track record of growing businesses, as evidenced by the growth in employment, turnover and profits at the six businesses ECI sold in 2007. During the period of ECI's investment, these businesses created 775 new jobs, increased sales at 14% p.a. and profits at 22% p.a.
ECI invested in Home Learning College in 2003 and are the major shareholder.
