The AAT Level 4 Diploma prepares you to hold a senior finance role by teaching you to undertake advanced processes, such as drafting financial statements for limited companies, performing complex management accounting tasks and developing your management skills.
There is also a choice of specialist subjects so you can focus on the areas of accounting that interest you most.

In addition to gaining the AAT Accounting Qualification, successful completion of AAT Level 4 also allows you to apply for full AAT membership and use the letters MAAT after your name.
This widely recognised accreditation proves your abilities as a qualified finance professional and delivers a wide range of benefits that will further enhance your career.
In total you will be required to complete four compulsory units and two specialist units.

Course Snapshot
- Level 4 qualification – equivalent to a Certificate of Higher Education
- Accredited by the Association of Accounting Technicians
- Entry requirements: Students must hold an existing AAT Level 3 Certificate in Accounting or have a recent British or Irish degree in Accounting or Finance. Exceptions can occasionally be made for students with other appropriate Level 3 qualifications who are employed in an accounting role
- Six units of study (four compulsory plus two of four optional units)
Printed books are supplied for the first four mandatory units. For the remaining two elective units digital books are available to downloaded from the VLC
- Three - five assignments per unit
- Eight computer based exams*
- Approximately recommended 300 study hours – as this is a distance learning course you are in complete control over how much time you commit to your studies each week

Completing Level 4 is approximately equivalent to the first year of an honours degree, and is recognised as a non-graduate route in chartered accountancy. All UK chartered and certified accountancy bodies - including CIPFA, CIMA, ICAEW, ICAS and ACCA - offer generous exemptions to full AAT members.
