How To Use Your Tutor

Here's how to get the most from your tutor

As a Home Learning College student, you're in the fortunate position of having your own personal tutor right from the start. This will be an individual who, as well as being an expert in his or her subject, is also a qualified specialist in distance learning.

As you'll appreciate, having a personal tutor to call on gives you a huge advantage. If you ever find yourself struggling with any aspect of your study, you will be able to call on your tutor for help - by phone or by email.

If you want to get the very best out of your relationship with your personal tutor, though, there are some "golden rules" to follow:

If you've got a problem, don't leave it too long.

Your tutor would always prefer to hear from you sooner rather than later. That way, he or she can help you deal with your concern quickly, before it has the chance to develop into anything bigger.

Keep a note of things you need to discuss with your tutor as you go along.

Obviously, you won't want to be emailing or phoning your tutor every time you have a simple question. So do jot all such questions and queries down, so you can deal with them all in one go at a convenient time.

Don't skip your written assignments.

Your written assignments are what your tutor will be using to check your level of progress and spot any gaps in your learning. So if you don't send them in, you'll be limiting his or her ability to help.

Don't struggle on your own.

Of course, we hope you won't encounter any difficulties as you study with us. But if you do, please don't hesitate to let your tutor know. Over the years, experience has shown us again and again that the old saying is true.  A problem shared is a problem solved!
