The Level 2 IAB Computerised Bookkeeping Course with Sage 50 Accounts

This course provides the only route to obtaining both accredited Level 1 and 2 qualifications from the International Association of Book-keepers (IAB), academic partners with Sage UK - two of the biggest names in the bookkeeping industry.

You will cover manual bookkeeping techniques while learning to use Sage 50 Accounts - the software of choice for most small and medium sized organisations. In fact, Sage 50 is a comprehensive business management system that can provide valuable information on customers, suppliers, products and areas of profitability.

IAB computerised bookkeeping training is invaluable to small business owners and anyone looking to develop a bookkeeping career . The syllabus covers a variety of computerised bookkeeping techniques, such as exporting and importing data and electronic submissions, financial data security, creating and emailing invoices and statements and more giving you IAB associate status and the knowledge needed to progress to IAB Level 3 courses.

These qualifications are part of the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF), which became fully operational in September 2010. Qualifications within the framework are made up of units and each unit is given a credit value, where one credit represents 10 hours of learning time. In total this course comprises 19 credits.

IAB Level 1 Award in Computerised Accounting for Business (QCF) – 6 credits

  • Introduction to bookkeeping – M/600/8737 (1 credit)
  • Working within Bookkeeping - T/600/8738 (2 credits)
  • Banking procedures - A/600/8739 (1 credit)
  • Computerised Accounting Software – F/502/4401 (2 credits).

IAB Level 2 Certificate in Computerised Accounting for Business (QCF) – 13 credits

  • Principles of recording and processing financial transactions - A/600/8756 (2 credits)
  • Professional values and basic business legislation - F/600/8757 (1 credit)
  • Banking procedures - A/600/8739 (1 credit)
  • Basic principles of costing – Y/600/4925 (4 credits)
  • Principles of VAT – F/600/4952 (2 credits)
  • Computerised Accounting Software – J/502/4402 (3 credits).

Plus a Certificate of Competency recognised by both Sage and the International Association of Book-keepers (IAB).

Course Snapshot

  • Level 2 qualification – comparable to studying at GCSE or higher diploma level
  • Accredited by the IAB (International Association of Book-keepers) and Sage
  • Entry requirements: Students should have a keen interest in bookkeeping and accounting with an eye for detail. A GCSE or equivalent in mathematics is desirable, but not essential
  • Four books containing 19 units 
    18 knowledge lessons and 72 short sessions in Sage
  • Eight IAB knowledge tests and two Sage tests taken at home
  • Approximately 190 recommended study hours – as this is a distance learning course you are in complete control over how much time you commit to your studies each week

  • It is essential that you have a PC with the Windows 2000 operating system or higher.

There are no formal entry requirements for our IAB Level 2 Accounting for Business course. However it is recommended that prospective candidates have basic skills in numeracy, information technology and literacy prior to embarking on a course of study for this qualification.

Because these qualifications are part of the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) they are guaranteed to be recognised by recruiters and employers, helping you to secure your first finance role or take the next step up the ladder.

This might mean running an accounts office for a small to medium sizes business, or becoming part of a bigger finance team for a larger organisation.

Alternatively, you could become a self employed bookkeeper – earning £18-20 per hour – or even a Sage trainer, commanding up to £50 per hour.
