The IAB Intermediate Bookkeeping course combines two IAB level 2 bookkeeping qualifications:

  • The IAB Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping (QCF: 601/0730/3)
  • The IAB Level 2 Award in Computerised Bookkeeping (QCF: 500/9261/3).

IAB level 2 bookkeeping training online allows you to study from home or on the move to become competent in a wide range of bookkeeping procedures. Level 2 bookkeeping courses prepare you for further study at advanced level after which you will be qualified to take on a range of clients and practise as a fully qualified Bookkeeper.

The IAB Intermediate Bookkeeping course expands on the basic principles of recording and processing financial transactions; teaching you how to account for VAT, maintain petty cash records, extract a trial balance and use the journal to correct errors.

Our IAB bookkeeping courses include Sage One Accounts Extra, the online software designed for businesses that need more from their accounting software. Sage One Accounts Extra allows you to control shared accounts data, manage trading abroad and extract data for management accounting purposes.

IAB computerised bookkeeping courses teach you how to manage financial information and process routine payments and receipts using a computerised system.

How to gain the IAB Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping

The IAB Intermediate Bookkeeping course consists of 12 units in total – ten for the manual bookkeeping Certificate and two for the computerised bookkeeping Award:

  • Unit 1: Principles of recording and processing financial transactions (2 credits)
  • Unit 2: Professional values and basic business legislation (1 credit)
  • Unit 3: Principles of VAT (2 credits)
  • Unit 4: Banking procedures (1 credit)
  • Unit 5: Preparing and recording financial documentation (2 credits)
  • Unit 6: Maintaining petty cash records (1 credit)
  • Unit 7: Maintaining and reconciling the cash book (2 credits)
  • Unit 8: Maintaining the journal (2 credits)
  • Unit 9: ledger transactions and extracting a trial balance (2 credits)
  • Unit 10: Maintaining control accounts (1 credit)
  • Unit 11: Setting up accounting software to manage accounting information (3 credits)
  • Unit 12: Processing routine payments and receipts using a computerised system (3 credits).

To enrol on the IAB Intermediate Bookkeeping course you must already hold the IAB Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping and IAB Level 1 Award in Computerised Bookkeeping; or have basic bookkeeping and Sage experience.

Before you enrol on any Home Learning College course, please ensure that you have read and understood the further pre-entry requirements below:

  • You have a valid UK address (students outside the UK will receive an additional postage charge)
  • You are over the age of 18 or have a third party payee for any financial agreement
  • You have a solid grasp of the English language – if English is not your first language an IELTS 5.5 is required
  • You have access to a computer and the internet throughout your study period
  • You have basic PC skills in order to navigate our Virtual Learning Campus

The IAB Intermediate Bookkeeping course forms the second stage on the IAB pathway to becoming a fully qualified Bookkeeper and gaining a licence to practice on behalf of Sole Traders, Partnerships and Limited Companies.

The Intermediate course is ideal for students looking to develop their bookkeeping skills and expand their working knowledge of Sage Accounts. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to go on to further study at level 3 with Home Learning College and the IAB.

Completion of the IAB Intermediate level course will also qualify you for the following roles within an organisation:

  • Accounts Clerk - £21,500*
  • Ledger Administrator - £25,000*
  • Bookkeeper - £27,000*

With a typical completion time of six months for each level, following the IAB pathway enables you to become fully qualified in just 18 months, or sooner for more experienced students.

Upon completion of your level 2 studies you will be able to apply for Associate level membership with the IAB and use the appropriate designatory letters (AIAB) after your name.

IAB Level 3: Advanced Bookkeeping Professionals who wish to develop higher level bookkeeping skills in a range of areas, and learn how to prepare financial statements for Sole Traders, Partnerships and Not for Profit organisations.

  • Full membership with the IAB (MIAB)
  • Qualified as a Bookkeeper with a licence to practise on behalf of Sole Traders, Partnerships and Limited Companies, and develop your own portfolio of clients
